Holly Springs Botanical Survey
Holly Springs Ranger District, Mississippi
Client: USDA Forest Service
Acer recently completed a threatened and endangered
plant species survey for the USDA Forest Service-Holly Springs
Ranger District in Mississippi. The survey covered over 2,000
acres in the Holly Springs National Forest in northwest Mississippi.
Acer was contracted to provide botany surveys for any Proposed,
Endangered, Threatened, and Locally Rare (PETS) plant species
as well as plant species of special concern and any unique
vegetation communities and habitats. During the survey, Acer
positively identified nine protected plant species within
the District. Global Positioning System (GPS) location and
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis of all species
and community types across the National Forest was also completed
as part of the study. |

Environmental Assessment for the
Proposed 13 Mile Savannah Electric Company Goshen to Kraft
115 kV Transmission Line

studies and assessments for the siting of the Goshen to Kraft
115 kV 13-mile transmission line spanning Chatham and Effingham
Counties in southeast Georgia near Savannah. These studies
included threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat
assessments, natural vegetation community assessment, wetland
delineation and assessment, stream and riparian assessments,

Sterling on the Lakes 900-Acre Residential
Development
Hall County, Georgia
Client: Newland Communities, Inc.
Sterling on the Lakes is a large, 900-acre
residential subdivision and community located near Gainesville
in Hall County, Georgia. Acer provided master environmental
planning and permitting for this project including wetland
delineation, threatened and endangered species surveys, compensatory
mitigation plans, and NPDES erosion and sediment control monitoring.
By master planning the development, Acer was able to prevent
long and costly delays associated with the Individual Permit
process by reducing overall wetland and stream impacts under
the Nationwide Permit threshold set by the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers.

Nancy Creek Stream Restoration Project
Fulton County, Georgia
Client: Private Landowner
Approximately 1,000 linear feet of Nancy Creek
will be restored by Acer to prevent stream bank erosion and
loss of property for a private landowner located in Buckhead,
Georgia. Nancy Creek is a large stream system situated in
a heavy urban watershed with actively eroding stream banks.
The existing condition survey revealed current and potential
problems with the stream that were specifically addressed
in the natural channel design. Acer used natural channel design
principles to successfully permit the project through the
City of Atlanta, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the
Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Construction is scheduled
for early 2006. |

North Burton Transmission
Line Tap
Rabun County, Georgia
Client: Georgia Transmission Company
Acer conducted NPDES monitoring for over 6
miles of transmission line through the Chattahoochee National
Forest in Rabun County, Georgia. As part of the project, Acer
conducted daily monitoring of transmission line clearing and
construction activities and recommended remedial actions for
any Best Management Practice (BMP) failures. The project was
sensitive to the overall forest ecosystem and Acer worked
closely with both Georgia Transmission Company and the U.S.
Forest Service to ensure project compliance and watershed
protection. |
