The Musket Bay Mitigation Bank is located in Ware County, Georgia within the Satilla River drainage basin. The bank is a commercial wetland and stream mitigation bank owned by Flint Timber II, L.P. and is comprised of 1,300 acres of potentially restored and enhanced coastal plain bottomland hardwood, cypress-tupelo, and wet hardwood and pine flat wetland systems. The bank is also proposing a pilot project to restore wetland hydrology and stream channel stability to over one mile of coastal plain stream through natural channel design methods. The bank will focus on restoring both hydrology and vegetation to drained and clear-cut coastal plain wetland systems and associated stream and riparian systems interconnected with the restored wetland complexes. Restoration of coastal plain streams in this manner is a relatively new concept and Musket Bay will be the first mitigation bank in coastal Georgia to design and implement this type of stream restoration.
